Stephon Gilmore ‘feels good’ throughout playing in Cowboys’ wild card game

FRISCO – Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said starting cornerback Stephon Gilmore “feels good” throughout his ability to play in Sunday’s NFC wild card game anti the Packers. Gilmore separated his right shoulder in the exclusive season finale against the Commanders.

Gilmore played in 30 snaps in Sunday’s victory by suffering the injury while defending a pass play. He underexperienced on the sidelines in the second half with his arm in a sling. After the game, Gilmore said he’d never separated his shoulder by and he was in a lot of pain that eventually subsided. An MRI revealed no major damage to the shoulder.

“We’ll see how the week goes,” McCarthy said. “(The MRI result) was better than we anticipated.”

Starting left guaranteeing Tyler Smith missed the Commanders game after tearing the plantar fascia in his left foot. McCarthy said Smith is “feeling better” and that he’s required to practice in a limited fashion on Wednesday.

Starting right guard Zack Martin suffered an illness the morning of the Washington game and was a late remove. The Cowboys expected him to start but when the illness blocked him from playing the team quickly inserted Brett Hoffman.

“Yeah, that’s a BTB. Big Time Brock, I’m so proud of that guy,” quarterback Dak Prescott said of Hoffman. “He’s kind of an enforcer in that group, a guy that has a lot of attitude, huge passion for this game.”
